Funny Legendary Dog Pokemon How to Get Thunderstone in Pokemon Soul Silver
In this article, we'll be looking at all the legends that you can get in Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver without a Wi-Fi based download like Mew, Celebi, Arceus or items like the Enigma Stone. There are nearly twenty Legendary Pokemon to catch between the two games, so keep this guide handy and you'll be able to add the most powerful Pokemon in Johto and Kanto to your collection.
The Legendary Trio
Although debate still rages as to whether they are cats or dogs, Suicune, Entei and Raikou are still a huge part of the game. In the original Gold and Silver games, all three were constantly running through Johto and it took heavy use of your maps and a decent amount of luck to catch them. This is still true for two of the Trio, but as the plot of Heart Gold and Soul Silver actually follows Pokemon Crystal, Suicune is a one-time occurring legend in a static location, making things easier for you to at least get one of the three.
When you first enter the basement of the Brass Tower, Suicune, Raikou and Entei will change from statues into real Pokemon and quickly flee the area. From that point on Raikou and Entei will roam all around Johto (and ONLY Johto). You'll have to encounter them by sheer luck the first time, but once you have, you'll be able to track them via the map in your PokeGear. Your best bet to make them appear is using a lot of Repel items (which prevents Pokemon of a lower level than your lead Pokemon from attacking you) combined with a level 39 Pokemon, as Raikou and Entei are Level 40. Raikou and Entei will always try to flee, so make sure you have a move or Pokemon Ability that prevents that from happening. Oddly enough I find a Parasect with a quick claw attached to be a sure fire way to catch Raikou (Not as good with Entei since Parsect is Bug/Fire and Entei is Fire). Parasect's spore has a 100% chance of making an opponent fall asleep and then it can follow up with False Swipe, which can reduce a Pokemon down to 1 Hit Point and yet never KO it. Another good combination is Gengar and Marowak. Use Gengar's lightning speed to get out Mean Look so your opponent can't escape, hit them in the second round with Confuse Ray and then switch out to Marowak who not only has False Swipe, but as a Ground type Pokemon is immune to Raikou's Electric attacks and can withstand a lot of Entei's attacks.
Suicune will give you the illusion of roaming for a bit, but it's all storyline based. First you'll have to head north of Cianwood City for the first sighting. After that you'll follow him to Route 42 outside of Mt. Mortar . After that it will greet you in Vermillion City in Kanto and then to Route 14 and finally you will do battle outside of Bill's House (the inventor of the Pokemon Storage System) on Route 25. Suicune is level 40, so you should be able to take it down pretty easily at this point.
The Johto Legendary Birds
Ho-Oh and Lugia's levels differ depending on what game you are playing, but the location will stay the same. In Heart Gold, you'll find a level 45 Ho-Oh atop the Tin Tower in Ecruteak City as long as you have a Rainbow Wing in tow. In Soul Silver, it will be at Level 70.
Lugia will be at the final level of the Whirl Islands in both games. In Soul Silver, it will be level 45 and in Heart Gold, it will be at Level 70.
The Kanto Legendary Birds
For the first time, you'll be able to catch Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres in a Johto based game. To get this trio to appear, you'll have to have all sixteen badges between Johto and Kanto.
Articuno will be in the Seafoam Islands similar to where it was in Fire Red and Leaf Green. It's level 50 so be prepared.
Zapdos is outside the Power Plant in Kanto's Route 10 instead of inside it. It's just sitting out there waiting for you, so go to it.
Moltres is the tricky one. In the Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow games, it could be found in Mt. Ember. Now this Legendary Pokemon resides in Silver Cave, right on the border of Johto and Kanto. Like the rest of the trio, it is at Level 50.
MEWTWO!
In the original Pokemon Gold and Silver, the Unknown Dungeon was sealed off and there was no way of entering it or getting to the Pokemon inside. This was a huge disappointment because in the lowest levels of that dungeon sat Mewtwo itself. Now in Heart Gold and Soul Silver, the Unknown Dungeon is reopened and you can journey to face the most infamous Pokemon of them all. In order to gain access to the dungeon, you'll have to have all sixteen badges. Mewtwo will also be a whopping Level 70.
Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald Legends
You have a chance to get Kyroge or Groudon depending on which version of the game you picked up. In Soul Silver you can get Groudon and in Heart Gold, Kyroge is available. Once you have obtained the National Dex and a Kanto starter from Professor Oak, you'll be able to go visit Mr. Pokemon from the very beginning of the game. He'll give you a special orb based on the game you are playing (Red in Soul Silver and blue in Heart Gold.). Then it's off to route 47 and the Embedded Tower where your specific Legendary Pokemon awaits. It'll be Level 50, like most of the other Legends we've seen so far.
Rayquaza is another R/S/E Legend you can pick up in Heart Gold or Soul Silver. It's a pretty tricky to get the Green Orb you need to summon it though. First you'll have to catch either Groudon or Kyroge in your own game, and then you'll have to trade for the other. Now, the traded Legend can only be from Heart Gold or Soul Silver. It cannot be from any other game. Once you have both, put them in your active party and go visit Professor Oak. He will give you the Green Orb and then it's back to the Embedded Tower you go. Once there, Rayquaza will appear and it's time to do battle.
Much like Kyroge and Groudon, Latios and Latias are version specific legends in this game. Once you have the National Dex and have traveled to Kanto for the first time, make your way to Vermillion City and visit the Pokemon Fan Club. After doing so, you'll be told that one of the Legendary Dragons is traveling around Kanto. Latias is in Heart Gold and Latios is in Soul Silver. Both will be roaming Pokemon at Level 35, so remember to use the same strategies you had for catching Entei and Raikou.
You'll be able to catch the other by downloading the Enigma Stone through a future Wi-Fi event that lets you download an Enigma Stone. Take it to Pewter City Museum where it will be revealed as Soul Dew. After that an angry Level 40 Legend (the opposite of what appeared originally in your game) will be rampaging in Pewter City and you'll have to stop it.
PLATNIUM LEGENDS
If you managed to get a hold of a special Arceus that was given away with a pre-order of the 12th movie ticket in Japan or through Wi-Fi several months ago in North America, you'll be able to get either a Dialga, Palkia or Giratina in your game. Take this special Arceus to the Sinjoh Ruins and the Pokemon Champion of Sinnoh, Cynthia will tell you that Arceus can create one of the three Sinnoh Legends in this temple. You'll be given a choice between the three and you'll only be able to make one, so choose carefully!
There you go. A comprehensive list containing all the Legendary Pokemon you'll be able to obtain within Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver. With this guide in hand, you'll be that match closer to finishing off your National Dex. Good luck!
